About Us

Swing Affair is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting and preserving various styles of Swing Dancing including Lindy Hop, East Coast Swing, Jitterbug, and related dances such as Charleston and Balboa. We continue this original American dance form by maintaining regular dances and venues, showcasing music from the era, and by providing local instruction. In addition to our dances, we also host a special event called the South Florida Lindy Exchange (SoFlex) which brings in dancers from all over the United States and Canada. SoFlex runs over four days during the third weekend of January and takes place at various locations in the Ft. Lauderdale/Miami area.

Swing Affair was founded in January 2001 and held its first dance on January 13, 2001. It's current committee (affectionately known as the Swing Affair Gang) consists of co-founders Sergio Loreto and Isidor (Izzy) Shniadoski, fellow officer Rob Tullo and committee members Jeri Lioi, and Tamar Mucha.

Swing Affair provides instruction in the different styles of swing dancing at a low cost to students, with local classes taught primarily by Chris and Angie Petruzzi. We also periodically bring in instructors of national and international renown for a weekend long workshop event. Since Swing Affair subsidizes the workshops, we are usually able to bring these exceptional teachers for a low cost to the public.

Swing Affair has also been involved in a number of charity and other promotional events. These events include the Saks Fifth Avenue Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, a benefit fundraiser for the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Miami, a promotional event at Bloomingdales to celebrate the launch of the James Bond Collection, and an appearance at Baille on the Beach, a benefit for the Miami Dance Machine. In addition, a number of our local dancers have participated in national competitions, appeared in the halftime show of Super Bowl XXXIII, and Swing Affair has also been featured in a segment of a local trend show, Deco Drive.
